What’s coming to CBS Pittsburgh? (I mean KDKA…); Griffin hospitalized

Probably not the best kept secret in town, but it seems CBS Pit… er uh KDKA-TV (2) will be upgrading their studio experience. At least that’s what some watchers are saying. It makes sense. Sister stations like KYW in Philadelphia have done similar going to an “Augmented Reality” studio model. “AR” is described as “an interactive technology that overlays digital information, 3D models or graphics into a real world environment.” In other words, fancy “bells and whistles” or “pictures and graphics”. Curious? Tune in Monday (6/22) at 4:00 p.m. – that is if you aren’t boycotting CBS for their recent actions on the national level.

Moving along out the road to the original KDKA… radio… midday host Marty Griffin has been in and out of the hospital over the last couple of weeks. On June 13 Griffin posted to his “Get Marty” Facebook page, “Came to Cape May NJ for family vacation… ended up with pneumonia in Cape May Hospital! I can smell the ocean from my room!” Three days later, Griffin was taking pictures of his feet on the beach with thanks for modern medicine. “Cancer side effects… years later…” he said before he moved on to explain a chain of events; late night eating caused acid reflux; food from the reflux getting in his lungs leading to pneumonia and sepsis. Griffin was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the throat in 2018 and was declared cancer free the next year. Anyway, on June 20 Griffin posted, “UPMC Presby ICU right now! Insane chest pains. Oxygen issues. Pneumonia in lungs. Pus in lungs. Lotta oxygen. Lotta meds. Rough.” It’s likely a safe bet that he will be off the air from his midday radio show for a little bit.
